The
tropic of cancer divides Taiwan in half resulting in two
very different types of underwater scenery: subtropical
in the north and tropical in the south.
The water around the island of Penghu are home to abundant
growth of coral, however the water can sometimes be turbid,
while those of smaller surrounding island are relatively
clear.
Hsiao Liu Chui, Green Island, and Orchid Island have strong
sea currents and are excellent diving spots thriving with
coral colonies and vast number of fish varieties.
Popular sea creatures include butterfly fish, porcupine
fish, and banana fish. Adding to the colourful underwater
world is amazing range of invertebrates and large varieties
of algae.
Taiwans inshore water provide habitat for an estimated 2,000
species of fish. There are also more than 200 species of
economic fish food and over 100 varieties of Mollusks.
